Reading/Signing/Q & A

Classic meet-the-author program.  Janet will read from The Opposite of Music for twenty minutes, meet patrons, answer questions, and bring a box of books to sign and sell.

Book Group Visit

Janet will talk in person or by phone with any adult, teen, or mixed book group that chooses The Opposite of Music as its book group selection.  Visits can take place at the library or in patrons' homes.  Get started with these reading group discussion questions.

The Publishing Process

Janet will give a behind-the-scenes look at the process of publishing her first novel. It's a lively story with many ups and downs.  Program includes tips for writers, resource recommendations, and handouts.

Understanding Depression

Janet will give a lively and useful talk about depression, the illness that's the focus of The Opposite of Music.  The talk will include definition, symptoms, causes, treatments, advice for family members, and the latest news in research and treatments.  Includes resource recommendations and handouts.

The first two programs, Reading/Signing/Q&A and Book Club Visit, are FREE to any library within 50 miles of Gloucester, Massachusetts.  The second two programs, The Publishing Process and Understanding Depression, are available for a $250 fee.   Janet Ruth Young is not a medical doctor, and the program Understanding Depression is not intended as a replacement for consultation with a qualified physician or therapist.
